My Luck Has Changed...

Remember when I said I'm totally unlucky and never win anything?  And then I told you that I'd won the Trina Rose Boutique giveaway from Designer Garden.  Well I did it again!  This time it's a Freschetta Pizza Giveaway from Lyssa at born-again crafterSide note: Lyssa is the sweetest thing ever.  She even sent me a Pinterest invite.  I get one of the adorable round cutting boards everyone's been giving away and a coupon to try out the new Freschetta pizzas.

You guys must think I'm a total liar, but you can ask Handy, in real life I'm very unlucky.

Trina Rose Boutique

Remember how excited I was when I won my first giveaway?  Well after the excitement wore off, I had to head over to Trina Rose Boutique to pick out my prize.

Trina Rose Boutique

There were a ton of adorable pillows to chose from and with a $25 store credit I'd hardly have to pay anything to get one shipped to me.  After some hemming and hawing I made my choice.  I sent Alli a note in the comments section letting her know it was me, so I'd get my credit, and in a couple days my pillow arrived...

Isn't it the cutest thing ever?  And with my store credit I only paid $2 for shipping, which makes me {heart} the pillow even more.  Alli is super sweet and has all kinds of cute stuff available in her etsy shop, so you should definitely check it out.  Plus, at the Trina Rose Boutique Blog she posts pictures of the projects she's currently working on, so you know what to expect in her shop.   When I decide where I'm going to put this little cutie I'll post a picture for you guys to see it in it's new home.  Thanks again Alli!

Oh Handy

I got some super awesome news the other day that I'm excited to tell you guys about, but it's been a little hectic the last couple of days, so I haven't had the time to write up the post yet.

You see, Handy woke up at 4:30 Wednesday morning and was having trouble breathing.  We went to the ER and his uvula (the hangy down thing at the back of your mouth) was swollen to twice the normal size.  They put in an IV of Benadryl and steroids and ran some blood tests and determined that he has a "throat infection of some kind".  Yeah, I know, they were really specific.  He's home on antibiotics and a liquid version of oxycodone and has a follow up appointment on Monday to make sure the antibiotics are fighting the unknown infection.

I'll try to get my news to you this weekend, but my niece is staying over tomorrow night and I need to clean the house before then, so no promises...

How Many Years?

How many years bad luck do you guys think I have if this is my front door?

Yes, that is a ladder behind the ladder
Handy has intentions of painting that beam.  It looks horrible painted white, so we bought some chocolate brown paint to try to get it back to a "wood look".  The paint can's sitting on the floor next to the ladder.  But we don't have any lights in the front room and Handy hasn't been getting home until after dark every night, so the ladder just sits there giving me bad luck each time I come and go from my house.

The Perfect Stripe

Our house is wired for sound.  There are really ugly speakers built in to the walls and ceiling of most rooms in the house.

I could probably put up with the ugliness if they worked, but unfortunately the previous owners took the actual speakers with them.  Eventually we'll probably put speakers back in, but until then we have ugly, useless speakers that I'm already sick of looking at.

I plan on putting up some art to cover them, but they're really high on the wall.  I thought the pictures would look weird being so close to the ceiling, so I decided to paint a stripe below them to offset the art.

We have a laser level, but I couldn't figure out how to make the laser line horizontal.  I asked Handy, and he wasn't sure either.  Turns out it'd never been used.  Instead of trying to figure it out, he offered to just hold a really long level to the wall while I drew a pencil line.

Next I taped along the lines with Frog Tape

I'd heard amazing things about Frog Tape, but this was my first experience with it.  All kinds of bloggy people have used it with great results, but I wasn't sure if anyone had the ridiculous amount of texture on their walls like we have.  I didn't want to have to come back through with a tiny paint brush cleaning up the edges so I decided to paint a coat of the wall paint along the edge of the tape to ensure a crisp line.

After the wall paint had dried completely, I gave the band between the tape lines two coats of blue paint.  Then, while the second coat was still wet, I carefully removed the tape.  To my amazement, the line was perfect.  No touch ups needed at all.

Isn't it lovely?  Of course, I still have those speakers to cover up:

But I'll get that done soon.

Bad Girl

I've been a bad home decor blogger.  It's been almost 3 weeks since I posted a completed project.  It's not like I don't have anything I'm working on.  In fact, I think the problem is that I have too many things I'm working on.  I've got

the filing cabinet, the guest bath, and 3 or 4 other projects I haven't mentioned yet, on top of the fact that I'm still trying to get all the walls painted in the house.  I know I should just pick a project and finish it, but for some reason I can't get myself to focus.

But that's going to change starting today.  Well, I've got stuff going on tonight and tomorrow night, but I promise to get at least one thing finished on Saturday.  And hopefully posted about too.  Now that I've said it, I know you guys will hold me to it.  So that should be all the motivation I need.

I'm a Winner!

Let me start off by saying I never win anything.  And I mean never.  I'm just not a lucky person.  To the point that Handy asks me to stay away from him if we're in a casino because he won't win with me there.  Sad.

But it seems my luck has changed!  Last night I was informed by Sommer from Designer Garden that I had won one of her Birthday Bash Giveaways!  That's right, I won something!  And it's actually something cool too.  Have you guys ever been to Trina Rose Boutique?  She makes adorable stuff like this:

Pair of Olive Green Damask Print Shabby Chic Refinished Wood Chairs

And I have a $25 credit towards her shop!  Try not to be too jealous.  Now I just have to decide what I want to get...

Fabric for the Benools

We stopped by Fabric Depot over the weekend.  For anyone not in the Portland Metro area, Fabric Depot is a gianormous fabric store.  It's like the Costco of fabric stores.  Handy was in a rush, so I couldn't dally as much as I'd have liked, but I found some new fabric for the benools in the home decor clearance section for $9.99/yard:

Now I just have to pick up some new stuffing and motivate myself to do the reupholstering so you can probably count on seeing the finished product within the month.  That might be too ambitious.  You can definitely count on them being done before summer.  Maybe.  We'll see how things go...
